Jim Toby is Principal and Civil Engineer/Land Surveyor at Lea & Braze Engineering, managing various civil engineering/development projects throughout California. He began his career with Lea & Braze Engineering, Inc. when it was operating under Lea & Sung Engineering back in 1996. He quickly advanced his position into becoming a partner with the firm in 2007.

Jim now leads a competent team of engineers and has a wealth of experience in subdivision, land planning, custom residential design, commercial and institutional/education projects.

Aside from his professional life, Jim started his working career as a teenager at Via West, formally known as Camp Costanoan as a camp counselor. This all started when attending Serra High School in San Mateo, Jim was required a certain amount of volunteer hours. His cousin Amy was a camper at Camp Costanoan and once he began to volunteer, he didn’t want to leave. In fact he worked all through High School and College as a camp counselor/ Head Counselor.

Once his professional career took off, he stepped away from Via, but came back several years later to help with pro-pono work on the camp.

Jim now continues his dedication to the organization serving on Via’s board for the past several years, including the past Board Chair. Today he has joined the newly formed Via West Board once Ability Path joined forces with Via. His passion for both the organization and community it serves motivates him to continue this role for as long as he can.
